The G5A features the following:

- Natural-looking synthetic fibers imported from Germany

- The hair on the G5A is very similar to that of other big name high end synthetic knots. For reference, it’s most similar to the Omega EVO.

- This knot has been packed with SHD density to make it the denest possible knot for it’s size (20% more hair).

- Excellent backbone. This German hair uses a wavy style hair to clump the tips and gives it more backbone while still retaining that amazing synthetic softness. It’s a truly luxurious experience with this knot.

- Very soft tips (approx. very soft to above average softness compared to other synthetics)

- A common problem with the G4 knots you’ve seen on the market is that they tend to tangle in the center after use. This problem does not occur in the G5A hair!

-It retains water in a more efficient manner than traditional synthetics.

NOTE: These knots contain and inherently shorter height (approx. 65mm) compared to other synthetics (68mm). Keep this in mind when setting the knot, you'll need a slightly more shallow hole!

Base Diameter: 24mm (

± 0.5 - 1mm)

My new favorite! Killer knot!

This knot is just awesome! Like all the G5 knots, the G5A whips up a lather quickly, has great backbone, soft tips, cleans up & dries quickly.

This knot is just a little better than the G5B or C, IMO. I prefer its shape to the G5C, and it’s performance just a little better than the G5B. That being said, all the G5 knots are awesome, so if you don’t have or want to spend the money on a G5A, a G5B or C are still excellent choices!

The G5 knots are the very best I’ve tried, my AP brushes blow the doors off all my Omega, PAA, Razorock, Semogue, Vikings Blade and Yaqi Brushes hands down!

Everything you could ask for in a Synthetic

Great synthetic: soft tips, fibres have better backbone than regular synthetics, fibre loss is minimal/non-existent, dries quickly. And of course, no animal aroma.

When tested against a Japanese knot, this knot held more water within the fibres, rather than between them. As a result, it picked up less water in total, but as a proportion of it's weight, retained a greater percentage. It created a far better lather.

In fact, I was looking for a synthetic that would lather well with soaps (rather than creams). This one does it quite well. No need to look any further.

Well done AP Shave.

G5A SHD 24mm + Ebonite handle

My 5th APShave brush & 4 are with the 24mm & 26mm knots. Really a wonderful knot in all aspects. It is a bit surprising to me that with my collection of so many great badger hair shaving brushes, the G5A’s are the brushes I select for use 6 out of 7 days a week. But maybe not really so crazy - the G5A’s don’t require pre-shave soaking, they build a faster lather, very comfortable on my face & rinse dry quickly! There ya go. I must also add Andrew is just a super guy to work with & his advise & guidance always very appreciated. Thank you for the opportunity to offer my review.

Dense, Plush Luxury For Those Who Want It All and Maybe a Little More

I asked for a synthetic brush with nigh-impossible dimensions on an internet discussion forum. One of Andrew’s colleagues said a G5 series would be needed to produce what I wanted to try.

I wanted a brush in the medium-to-hyooj category that wouldn’t have too tall of a loft. Other than the height of its loft, my AP ShaveCo 30mm Cashmere brush is perfecto. Actually, it’s perfecto even with its loft height, but I didn’t know that, so I was on a quest.

This quest continued with me emailing Andrew about setting a relatively low loft on a 24mm G5A knot in a clear and blue handle and him saying he could make and sell one to me. So that happened. And I waited and fidgeted and it arrived in a timely manner and it looked stunning. My first “high end” synthetic knot in my third, custom-made AP ShaveCo brush.

Then learning occurred. But it was great!

The brush looked barely; nit-pickingly; narrower than the Omega Evo V1 in the household (at 24mm versus 28mm, that’s supposed to look/be that way) and with a slightly shorter loft (for which I begged as I surmised it would be the answer to all my brush-related desires). What I asked for to a tee! When both are completely dry, the tips of the competitor’s brush felt barely softer, but something happened when the AP ShaveCo brush was loaded with soap and water:

This medium/large brush made non-stop slick, creamy lather! It was like a machine at a barber shop that fit in the palm of my lather-filled hand. It held enough lather to shave my neighborhood, but I’m introverted. But insanely easy lather making was only the start.

I face lather; as opposed to using a bowl; and paint with a little bit of pressure here and there as opposed to splaying and scrubbing. This brush felt not only as soft or softer as that Omega Evo V1 I mentioned, but it is so much more plush, dense, and luxurious. This brush feels so incredibly like a badger brush, only it also feels like it’s not at the same time. Very soft, but very scrubby, with none of the downsides.

My only regret is that I wonder what the G5C feels like in action as the G5A gives me the comfort, luxury, and enjoyment one expects of a premium, deity-tier brush, but it also makes incredible lather beyond my skill level, so I shouldn’t wonder.

How did so much luxury come from a 24mm synthetic brush? I don’t know, but AP ShaveCo sold one to me without a prescription.
