I used a very expensive silvertip badger brush for 10+ years and decided to try some of the new synthetics figuring that they might not be as great, but for the price I could try a few and just see how they compare. I got the AP Shave Co Synbad and Tuxedo knots, and man they exceeded my expectations by a mile. The Synbad reminds me a lot of my badger (which is to say it's wonderfully soft but with enough firmness to lather easily. The Tuxedo on the other hand is tremendous. It is exceptionally soft, but also somehow exceptionally firm. It is so easy to lather, but it also feels fantastic on my face. I'm not sure how it works (dark magic, probably) but it's better than my badger for sure.
I did also purchase a tuxedo from another retailer and can honestly say it doesn't hold a candle to APSC, it just doesn't have the same firmness.
I would highly recommend these brushes to anyone else looking.
24MM SynBad w/ Elegant Emerald Handle
After a few weeks, I find I'm reaching for this brush more often than any of my other synthetics or boars. The synbad knot has more than enough backbone to load even a hard milled soap like Pre de Provence quickly. It splays very easily for face lathering, and has an extremely soft feel for painting the lather. The handle is very comfortable to hold and looks great. All in all, a real pleasure to use.
