It’s very good for the price if you’re into backbone. Personally, I’d prefer something a bit softer but it’s still a very good knot. It is 70% two band finest badger and 30% boar bristle, as mentioned by the manufacturer. It has very good water retention and the backbone to back it up. The only fault that I had with it, and this could be due to personal error, but when you spread the lather, it tends to eat up some of it, leaving some clear spots. However, if you don’t push down hard on your face and go at it with a softer touch, it will generate some of the best lather of your life. It does have boar bristles, so that’s the reasoning behind having a soft touch. These bristles are best for hard soaps but because it is a mixed badger/boar brush, you can use it with creams as well. If you need to beef up your lather, just put a bit more water on it as these specific badger bristles are probably the best with water retention. I personally found the best results when using shaving cream and face lathered but hey, your mileage may vary. If you have a problem with harder bristles, just wait it out a bit. The boar bristles need time to break in and get soft. Once that happens, you probably will have the best brush of your life, due to having the rarest quality of badger hair and broken-in boar hair in one knot. Do yourself a favor and get this knot, you won’t regret it and for the price, it’s a steal. Happy shaving!
